MEET DR. ZEHRA SYED

Hey y’all! My name is Zehra Syed (patients call me Dr. Z!) and I am thrilled to live out my dreams of being an orthodontist. I love connecting with people and helping others achieve their goal of having a beautiful, confident smile. I am incredibly passionate about what I do and want to make your orthodontic experience as rewarding, comfortable, and fun as possible!

I was born in Birmingham and raised in Indian Springs, AL where I attended Oak Mountain High School. My love for the game of soccer led me to Mississippi State University (Go Bulldogs!) where I played on the Women’s Soccer Team while earning my Bachelor’s degrees in Biology and Business. After completing my MBA at Mississippi State, I returned home to pursue my dental education.

I discovered my passion for orthodontics while studying at UAB School of Dentistry. I was struck by the life-changing impact orthodontic treatment had on patients and the confidence it could provide to people of all ages. I have had an interest in orthodontics from my own experience with braces as a young person and from my orthodontist (Dr. Boggan) who inspired me to pursue this career path. After finishing dental school, I moved to Charleston, SC to complete my Orthodontic Residency at the Medical University of South Carolina. During my three-year residency, I received extensive training in traditional braces, clear aligner therapy, and surgical orthodontics.

In my free time, I enjoy anything active and outdoors! I love hitting the hiking trails, paddle boarding, running, attending sporting events, and traveling. I also enjoy decorating and DIYing, drawing, and painting. Above all, I cherish the time I spend with my family and friends. Although I have lived in several different cities, Birmingham has always been my home and I am grateful to be back!
